Road improvement projects on Sheikh Zayed Street at Hazza bin Zayed Street and Qasr Al Bahr junction were completed this month, Abu Dhabi municipality said on Sunday.
Work began in December 2014 and involved providing three lanes to enable smooth access to the junction of Qasr Al-Bahr tunnel for motorists coming from Hazza bin Zayed Street. As a result, traffic intake has increased and traffic flow has been streamlined on Sheikh Zayed Street.
Road works also included a new traffic signal at the right-hand exit for inbound and outbound traffic from Hazza bin Zayed Street. Motorists can now pass through this signal to enter the Qasr Al-Bahr tunnel or use the junction on Delma Street at the Qaser Al Bahr signal.
Other improvement projects were rainwater drainage networks, replacing barriers and plastic cones with a more flexible metal barrier, modifying the lanes at the exit of Sheikh Zayed Tunnel, adding new lanes and merging a lane on Sheikh Zayed Street.
The Sheikh Zayed Street and Tunnel opened in December 2012.It enables motorists to cut through traffic by avoiding junctions, slashing journey times and reducing traffic volume in the city centre.
