ABU DHABI // More than 100,000 serious traffic violations were recorded in the emirate during the first quarter of the year.
The Abu Dhabi Police traffic directorate said young people had the highest number of serious violations, showing the need for programmes at educational institutions.
Eighteen per cent of violations were issued for unfastened seatbelts, 10 per cent for mobile phone use and 8 per cent for faulty tires, said Brig Khalifa Al Khaili, the director’s deputy director.
Seventy-eight cases of road racing, 3,616 of overtaking on the hard shoulder and 1,495 sudden lane changes were recorded.
