Residents in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region can now have a say on how the emirate’s public transport systems are designed and run.

The Department of Transport (DoT) announced yesterday it will launch field surveys and home visits to gather views on transport patterns and norms.

Surveys will be conducted at airports, shopping malls and shops. Individuals, families, bus users, taxi drivers, lorry drivers and workers will be interviewed. Of about 27,000 questionnaires, 6,000 will be used for interviews conducted inside homes. “We need to know what are the most-used means of transport, and what are the variation levels in transport norms among different households,” said Bader Al Qamzi, director of integrated transportation planning division at the DoT.

Information gathered between March to May will be used to update the DoT’s strategic transport evaluation and assessment model, predict demand for transport services and structures in the future, and determine the required investments to meet these needs.
