10 new speed radars for RAK

RAK Police have installed 10 new speed radars – seven fixed and three mobile radars – on a number of the emirate’s streets in order to curb speeding motorists.

The Traffic and Patrols Department director, Col Ali Saeed Al Elkum, said the new radars were installed on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street, Al Rams Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, Azan Highway, Azan-Al Ghail Street, Khalifa Street and other streets and lanes bringing the number of radars in the emirate to 20 in total.

He said that the radar settings differ according to streets and the intensity of traffic.

He said the speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Sheikh Khalifa streets is 120 km/h and radars on both streets are set at 140 km/h. whereas the speed limit on Al Jazeera Al Hamra Street up until Al Wakalat Street is 100 km/h and the radar there was set at 120 km/h.

He noted that the added radars throughout the emirate is part of a strategic plan to ensure safety and security and to enhance traffic safety and decrease road fatalities.
