ABU DHABI // Three public libraries have been opened in parks in the capital.
The libraries, at Khalifa Park, Family Beach on the Corniche and Bahya Park, are part of Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s plan to encourage reading.
The municipality also announced plans to open another library at Wathba Park next year and one at the Corniche Beach.
Over the summer, the existing facilities will have special programmes and activities on for children.
These include reading events, video viewings and handicraft demonstrations.
“The programme aims to show the communal and cultural values of reading by encouraging children to pick up the habit,” said a municipality spokesman. “It is a way of supporting community development efforts.”
The libraries will also host events that aim to promote a healthy environment to keep the appearance of the city clean.
The libraries at Khalifa Park and Bahya Park are open Sunday to Thursday from 8am to 8pm and on Saturday from 4pm to 8pm.
The Family Beach library is open only on weekdays – from 10am to 6pm.
