AJMAN // The third edition of the Liwa Ajman Date Festival will kick off on Wednesday.

Emirati farmers will have a chance to show off their dates and citrus fruits at Emirates Hospitality Centre during the three-day festival.

The event celebrates the country’s rich heritage and traditions, and provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about the farming industry and types of produce grown in the country.

Saud Al Jasmi, head of the festival committee, said harvests will be auctioned on the last day of the event, with proceeds going to a charity in Ajman.

The first day will focus on premium dates, while the remaining days will showcase Al Khallas, Al Kunaizi, Al Barhi, Al Sheshe, Al Farth and Lulu date produce. Prizes worth Dh400,000 are up for grabs for winners of the best produce.

The festival includes a traditional market displaying hand-made products made from palm leaves by Emirati families related to different aspects of Bedouin life, as well as a culinary corner where chefs will serve visitors dishes with date flavours.
