DUBAI // Two sisters who died in a house fire in a Dubai suburb have been buried.

The 20-year-old Emirati twins were found dead after the blaze broke out at a relative’s villa in Al Twar 3 on Tuesday morning.

Their bodies were handed over to the family and were buried in Al Qusais cemetery after maghreb prayers on Tuesday evening.

Their uncle, Abdulla Salih, 53, declined to name the twins but said they were new college graduates living at his home with his family.

“They were like my own daughters and we loved them dearly. I hope they are in a better place. May they rest in peace,” he said.

“We cannot believe they are gone, we can’t believe this tragedy happened. Everyone in the family is shocked and saddened by their deaths.

“Both of them finished their studies in college and were applying for jobs in the hope of beginning their careers.

“They lived with me and my family for more than two years.”

The fire broke out in an extension of the villa where the women were sleeping at 10.47am. A Dubai Civil Defence team from the nearby Rashidiya fire station arrived at 10.52am and began dousing the fire.

A housemaid and a six-month-old baby girl were rescued from the blaze. They sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Civil defence said the sisters died of smoke inhalation but did not say what caused the fire.
