DUBAI // The National’s website, thenational.ae, was honoured at the Arab Strategic Web Awards 2014 on Monday.
The awards are organised by the Excellence Awards Academy, a Dubai-based organisation committed to raising the standards of websites in Arab countries, and the Beirut-based Arab Organization for Social Responsibility, a non-governmental group that seeks to promote social responsibility and international best practices and standards in the region.
The National won a Strategic Award in the English-language magazine and newspaper category. The website, which underwent a redesign in the summer, received 5.7 million page views last month, representing year-on-year growth of more than 35 per cent. Last year, the website received the Golden Award at the UAE Web Awards competition, also organised by the Excellence Awards Academy, where it won in the Media Online Press category.
UAE websites dominated the winners list in a variety of categories. Among regional winners were Kuwait’s Al Anba newspaper, the Greater Amman Municipality and the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon.
