DUBAI // Cold and wet weather will persist over the weekend, while winds as high as 55 kph will mean rough seas for recreational and commercial vessels.
The unsettled weather is expected to continue into next week, while temperatures could fall by as much as 5°C from Saturday.
“We are expecting cloudy conditions and patchy light to moderate rain over the northern areas as well as the islands and along parts of the coast into Saturday morning,” said a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in Abu Dhabi.
“The Oman Sea and the Arabian Gulf will be rough, and we have a warning to fishermen to not be out there.
“The wind may result in dust being blown up, reducing visibility to about a kilometre in some coastal areas.”
Average temperatures will be between 24°C and 30°C along the coast, up to a maximum of 32°C inland.
“We expect temperatures to drop by about 5°C on Saturday, but cloud will disperse in about 48 hours,” he said.
“This weather is normal for the time of year.”
The unsettled conditions are caused by low pressure across the central and eastern Arabian peninsula.
On Saturday morning, that ridge of low pressure is expected to move eastwards, making way for an area of high pressure and improved conditions next weeks.
