The homeland security authority at the Federal Supreme Court will hear the case of an Emirati teen accused of joining the terrorist group ISIL.
Prosecutors said S A, 19, tried to join the group last October, despite knowing the truth behind the organisation and its objectives. They added that based on that information, the accused committed a crime, violating articles 1.22-1.45 of the Federal Anti-Terrorism Law No 7 of 2014.
S A has denied the charges. His lawyer, Youssef Al Ali, has requested additional time to look into the case file and present his defence. S A asked to see his father, who was present during the court session. The defence will be heard on June 29.
The court will also hear two other terror-related cases. One concerns an Emirati who is accused of joining Al Nusra, and another involves two Emiratis who used their social media accounts to insult the UAE judiciary and other leadership symbols.
