DUBAI // Police in Egypt are waiting to question the man who allegedly paid US$2 million (Dh7.345m) to have Suzan Tamim killed. The man accused of murdering the Lebanese pop singer was in custody, said a police officer in Cairo connected to the case. However, the man whom police suspect of ordering the killing is in France on a business trip. He will be questioned as early as tomorrow.
Tamim, 31, was found dead in her Jumeirah Beach Residence flat on July 28 with multiple stab wounds. "He [the killer] has confessed and spoke about who was behind the murder, but we are yet to question the man who he said ordered the hit," said the source, adding that the accused could be extradited to the UAE. "There is an understanding between us and police in Dubai to extradite those involved."
The man in France is aware that he is wanted for questioning and is expected to return to Egypt tomorrow or the day after. Detectives from Dubai are set to fly to Cairo soon to help with the investigation, another source said. However, Major Gen Mattar Khamis al Mazeina, the acting head of Dubai Police, refused to confirm where Tamim's accused murderer was being held. "The matter is now with the Arab country and we are waiting for them to finish the investigation," he said.
