Tailor assaulted colleague who told him to stop harassing women, Dubai court hears

DUBAI // A 36-year-old tailor assaulted his colleague after being told to stop harassing the shop’s female workers, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Thursday.

Egyptian EE, 20, said he works alongside defendant YA, who is also Egyptian.

“He constantly harasses our two female colleagues and I often advised him not to do so,” said EE.

However, he said that on January 2, as he was on a break drinking tea, the defendant approached him and asked EE to follow him.

“I said no and he suddenly punched me in the face, throwing me unconscious, and when I woke up I found him still standing there,” said EE.

Records show that the victim left to go home and, the next morning, the left side of his cheek had swelled. He visited Rashid Hospital and was told he had a fractured jaw and would need a surgical procedure.

After undergoing the procedure, EE reported his colleague to police.

“I was passing by at nearly 9pm when I saw EE on the ground after the defendant assaulted him,” testified Syrian SS, 28.

The defendant was not present in court to enter a plea.

The next hearing will be on October 26.
