DUBAI // A computer engineer who slammed a door on a hand of an Indian worker causing him permanent disability in one of his fingers has been given a suspended six-month jail sentence by Dubai Criminal Court.

The 24-year-old Iraqi, O A, denied assault and insulting Indian supervisor, F A, 37, when he appeared in court earlier this month. “There is no reason that I assault him, no excuse, I didn’t do that,” said the Iraqi.

The victim said he went to a villa belonging to O A’s father after one of his workers told him the owner was requesting changes in the location of closets.

“I went to the villa in Al Wasl and met the owner. His son, the defendant, started telling me the closets fixed on the walls had some errors so I accompanied O A to the second floor so he could show me the errors. While walking he insulted me saying I was a pimp,” testified F A.

Before leaving, F A told the villa’s owner that his son had insulted him. “At that moment, the son pushed me towards the door and pushed me out, I lost my balance and held on to the side of the open door. Then he slammed the door while my hand was still there,” said F A.

F A’s fingers were badly injured and he was told by the hospital he lost full mobility in one.
