Abu Dhabi landmarks were lit up in the colours of the Sri Lankan flag on Wednesday night in a show of solidarity following bombing attacks that left hundreds dead.
The headquarters of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi Global Market, Marina Mall, Capital Tower and Sheikh Zayed Bridge were bathed in maroon, orange, green and gold.
The death toll from the attacks now stands at 359, with a further 500 wounded in the eight coordinated bombings in Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa.
Several UAE residents were among the dead, including Razeena Kukkady, 58, a mother of two who lived in Dubai, was killed at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.
Lakshan Rodrigo, who spent 13 years in the UAE before moving back to his native Sri Lanka to take a job at the Shangri-La in 2016, died while on duty at the hotel.
And Lorraine Campbell, from Manchester, an employee of the Al Futtaim Group who was in Sri Lanka on business, died in the bombing of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo. Ms Campbell’s colleague, Juno Srivastava, is still missing.

December 2: 11am, Dubai. New Supreme Council formally elects Sheikh Zayed as President. Treaty of Friendship signed with the UK. 11.30am. Flag raising ceremony at Union House and Al Manhal Palace in Abu Dhabi witnessed by Sheikh Khalifa, then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
December 6: Arab League formally admits the UAE. The first British Ambassador presents his credentials to Sheikh Zayed.
December 9: UAE joins the United Nations.

Basquiat in Abu Dhabi
One of Basquiat’s paintings, the vibrant Cabra (1981–82), now hangs in Louvre Abu Dhabi temporarily, on loan from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
The latter museum is not open physically, but has assembled a collection and puts together a series of events called Talking Art, such as this discussion, moderated by writer Chaedria LaBouvier.
It's something of a Basquiat season in Abu Dhabi at the moment. Last week, The Radiant Child, a documentary on Basquiat was shown at Manarat Al Saadiyat, and tonight (April 18) the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is throwing the re-creation of a party tonight, of the legendary Canal Zone party thrown in 1979, which epitomised the collaborative scene of the time. It was at Canal Zone that Basquiat met prominent members of the art world and moved from unknown graffiti artist into someone in the spotlight.
“We’ve invited local resident arists, we’ll have spray cans at the ready,” says curator Maisa Al Qassemi of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

Dr Amal Khalid Alias revealed a recent case of a woman with daughters, who specifically wanted a boy.
A semen analysis of the father showed abnormal sperm so the couple required IVF.
Out of 21 eggs collected, six were unused leaving 15 suitable for IVF.
A specific procedure was used, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection where a single sperm cell is inserted into the egg.
On day three of the process, 14 embryos were biopsied for gender selection.
The next day, a pre-implantation genetic report revealed four normal male embryos, three female and seven abnormal samples.
Day five of the treatment saw two male embryos transferred to the patient.
The woman recorded a positive pregnancy test two weeks later.
