Soldier who raped woman in Dubai is jailed

The Emirati, 22, was convicted and jailed for three years on Sunday over the attack on November 29.

DUBAI // A soldier who raped a woman after pretending to invite her for dinner was convicted and jailed for three years on Sunday over the attack on November 29.

Dubai Criminal Court heard the 22-year-old Emirati soldier picked up the Ethiopian victim, 22, in the Naif area of Deira but drove her and a friend of his to a deserted area.

According to the victim, her attacker stopped the car and then climbed on top of her.

She said: “His friend stepped out of the car then he locked the doors and jumped on top of me. He punched me in the waist and threatened to cut my throat and throw my dead body in the desert.”

The victim said he overpowered her and that the attack lasted about 10 minutes.

The attacker then got out of the car and invited his friend to have sex with her, the woman said.

She said: “When he got into the car, I begged him and cried and pleaded with him that, if he had any sisters, to think of them and not touch me. So he stopped and got out of the car.”

The pair men drove the woman back to Deira and the woman spotted a police patrol car and raised the alarm.

A 36-year-old policeman said he and his colleague were patrolling when they saw the victim getting out of a black Toyota Camry at about 5am.

The officer said: “She was crying so I asked her what was wrong. She pointed at the Camry and said something bad had happened.”

Police chased the men and caught the two suspects.

The soldier’s DNA was found on the woman’s body and he was charged. The second man in the car was found not guilty of attempted rape.
