Six hurt in Mussaffah supermarket fire

ABU DHABI // Six people were injured when a fire broke out in the storerooms of a supermarket in Mussaffah Industrial Area on Thursday morning.

An Abu Dhabi Civil Defence rapid intervention crew, supervised by Maj Gen Jassim Al Marzouqi, head of Civil Defence, fought and contained the fire.

Gen Al Marzouqi said that once they were notified by the operations room, teams prevented the fire from spreading.

The injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

He said an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the fire and urged the public to observe safety and fire prevention requirements.

There have been several large fires in the capital recently.

Last month, 16 shops in Bani Yas Souq went up in flames, -although no deaths were reported.

Last year, 14 people died and more than 150 were injured in 1,170 fires that took place across the capital.
