ABU DHABI // The international football star Shay Given will sign autographs at the official Manchester City Football Club Store on Tuesday.
Given, the Republic of Ireland and Man City goalkeeper, will be in Marina Mall at 7pm to meet and greet fans of the English club, which is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed.
The keeper, who made 110 international appearances for his country, will also show more than 600 children some tricks of the trade at Man City Soccer School, which begins today monday at Al Jazira Football Club and runs for three days.
He started to play with Man City in 2009, when he was signed from Newcastle Football Club for £7 million (Dh42m). The 34-year-old keeper has so far made 473 appearances in the English Premiership.
Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways' chief commercial officer, said: "Shay Given is one of the most recognisable faces in the English Premier League and certain to be a hit with the children.
"It is also a great opportunity for the Manchester City coaches to view Emirati footballing talent and for Etihad to support grass roots sport in the UAE."
The school is for children who want to improve their football skills. Lessons will be held at Abu Dhabi's Al Jazira, then head to Al Ain English Speaking School on Thursday; that class will also have a girls-only coaching session.
On Friday, the school will return to Abu Dhabi for the final lessons.
