ABU DHABI // A woman who claims her boss repeatedly sexually assaulted her reported him to police when he called her a rude name, a court heard yesterday.

AG, from Morocco, and two of her colleagues told the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court that HM, the Egyptian owner of the Mussaffah cafe where they worked, often touched her inappropriately.

AG said she decided to complain about MG after he called one of her colleagues to tell her he had cancelled her residency. AG says her colleague then handed her the phone and HM verbally abused her, calling her a "slut".

HM's lawyer said claims about the alleged insult were not consistent. One person claimed the insult was "slut", another claimed it was "daughter of a slut", he said.

He also questioned how a Syrian customer, who claimed to have seen HM grab AG, could have seen the alleged assault.

"They all said the assaults occurred inside the kitchen. How did the customer observe inside the kitchen?" he asked.

The judge asked AG why she had not complained about the sexual assaults but did about the insult.

AG replied she had been scared that HM would cancel her visa.

HM told the court AG was making the allegations as revenge for her two colleagues after he cancelled their visas.

While he denied calling her a slut, he claimed AG was involved in indecent acts that would take place when she went to the city at nights to party.

"I advised her so many times to stay out of this path," he said, adding he warned her he would never sponsor anyone committing such acts and would cancel her visa.

The trial continues.
