DUBAI // A father pleaded with a court to send his son into rehab rather than locking him up after the 23-year-old confessed to possessing illegal drugs and consuming marijuana.
The father asked the presiding judge at the Dubai Criminal Court not to jail his son, AR, an Emirati police officer. “He needs treatment, please send him to a rehab facility, he should not be thrown in jail.”
Prosecutors said that AR consumed the marijuana on March 30 this year. Police also found 19 capsule of banned substances.
AR pleaded guilty to at the court on Thursday. A verdict is expected on July 29.
