Safety plea after air conditioner faults cause two fires in Ras Al Khaimah

The emirate's civil defence has urged members of the public to carry out regular checks of units

A safety warning has been issued after air conditioning unit faults caused two fires in Ras Al Khaimah in a matter of hours.

Fire fighters were called out to tackle a blaze at a house in Seih Al Burairat at 3.30pm on Monday afternoon.

Crews brought the fire under control within minutes and no injuries were reported.

The incident came after more than 20 workers were rescued when a fire broke out at a labour accommodation in the emirate at about 2.40am on the same day.

The building was evacuated and nobody was injured.

Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence said malfunctioning air conditioning units sparked both fires.

The civil defence urged members of the public to ensure units are well maintained and wiring is correctly installed.

Fire fighters in the emirate also came to the aid of an elderly resident after a gas cylinder in her home in Shamal caught fire on Sunday afternoon.

The woman suffered smoke inhalation and was given first aid by paramedics after the blaze tore through her home.
