RAS AL KHAIMAH // RAK Municipality has said it will allocate a new area for labourers’ accommodation away from residential areas, as part of a plan to keep the emirate safe.
The municipality, acting on a directive by Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Ruler of RAK, said the move was aimed at increasing safety and combating crime, while allaying residents’ fears.
The municipality said it would work with other concerned authorities and groups to make the plan work.
Munther bin Shekar, the director of the municipality, said all labour accommodation sites located near residential areas would be closed and that construction companies would be able to rent space at the new workers’ accommodations.
The move came after residents voiced their concern over large numbers of workers congregating in residential areas.
