A charity race named after the UAE's Founding Father will be held in New York on Sunday to raise funds for research into the treatment of kidney diseases.
The 14th Zayed International Charity Marathon, also known as the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K, will take place in Central Park.
The first race was held to thank American surgeons after Sheikh Zayed's kidney operation at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio in 2000.
The sold-out event, which includes a UAE hospitality tent to give runners and spectators the chance to experience Emirati culture at a post-race festival, offers a $30,000 (Dh110,200) bonus to the fastest runners.

The bonus, courtesy of the UAE Embassy in honour of Sheikh Zayed, will be awarded to the the first man to break the 27.35 record set by Leonard Patrick Komon at the 2011 race and/or to the first woman to break the 30.44 record set by Lornah Kiplagat in 2002.
Organised by New York Road Runners in co-operation with the UAE Embassy in Washington, the UAE Consulate General in New York and the National Kidney Foundation of the United States, the annual event honours Sheikh Zayed's legacy and aims to spread awareness of kidney disease and highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
