ABU DHABI // Preliminary results from an experiment to grow quinoa using the aquaponics method at the Faculty of Food and Agriculture at the United Arab Emirates University have proved successful.
The dean of the faculty, Dr Ayesha Boushlibi, said the experiment is part of the university’s research plans that focus on community issues. The faculty has been focusing on experimenting with growing high nutritional value crops that can withstand high salinity.
Research and studies proved that quinoa cultivated in saline water yields 60 per cent the amount of production achieved in pure water cultivation, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
