DUBAI // Almost a quarter of car parking spaces in the emirate will see price hikes from May 28.

The price increases vary depending on the area and affect 23 per cent of all parking spaces in Dubai.

The Roads and Transport Authority said the move is necessary to encourage more use of public transport and solve the issue of increasingly fewer parking spots in congested parts of the city.

The new policy also sees the noon free parking period abolished, resulting in paid parking from 8am to 10pm, excluding Fridays and public holidays.

The fee for multi-storey car parks has also been increased from Dh3 to Dh5 per hour.

In addition, 11 types of free parking permits will be made available for those with disabilities, senior citizens and government entities, among others.
