DUBAI // A prostitute who falsely accused a customer of rape has been jailed for seven months.
The client received the same sentence.
F A, 39, from Uzbekistan, claimed A A, 43, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, sexually assaulted her after he refused to pay her.
She said they met at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and she agreed to have sex with him for money. They then went to the Address Hotel, on June 26 last year.
Emirati police officer M H said the woman reported the customer for rape but later admitted she had lied.
“When he didn’t pay her, she decided to accuse him of rape because, as she said, he had done the same thing with many prostitutes she knew – that he would agree on paid sex but after the sex he wouldn’t pay the prostitutes,” the officer said.
The woman, who was convicted at Dubai Criminal Court in October, was sentenced to six months for consensual sex out of wedlock, with another month for prostitution.
The customer was also given six months for sex out of wedlock, with another month for admitting consuming alcohol without a licence.
Both will be deported after their prison terms.
