DUBAI // The public has been invited to break into a vault and get their hands on gold bars, bonds and jewellery as part of a promotional stunt for a Bollywood movie.
Codebreakers will have 10 days to crack the combination and plunder the safe, which will be placed in a Dubai mall next week.
The movie being promoted, Players, is a Hindi-language take on the 1969 British classic The Italian Job that starred Michael Caine. The movie has been remade once before, when Charlize Theron and her co-stars gave the film a modern makeover in 2003.
The Bollywood version stars Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonam Kapoor among others.
The plot centres on a band of thieves who plan to steal a stash of gold from an old associate who double-crossed them.
The trailer is packed with car chases filmed on roads and beaches in Goa, India, and Wellington, New Zealand. As with the Hollywood original, the Bollywood version has the actors staging their getaway in Mini Coopers.
"Since the movie is all about thieves and robbery, we want to create that kind of buzz around it," said Shujah Syed, the chief executive of the company promoting the movie here, Ministry of Events. "It is the first [Bollywood] premiere of 2012, so we want it to be fun."
He said clues for the contest will be posted on the movie's Facebook page, PlayersGoForGold.
The cast of Players will all be in Dubai for the world premiere of the movie on January 4. The movie will be released internationally on January 6.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the German parliament that. Russia had erected a new wall across Europe.

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
Where to donate in the UAE
You can donate to several registered charities through a “donation catalogue”. The use of the donation is quite specific, such as buying a fan for a poor family in Niger for Dh130.

Dubai Cares provides several options for individuals and companies to donate, including online, through banks, at retail outlets, via phone and by purchasing Dubai Cares branded merchandise. It is currently running a campaign called Bookings 2030, which allows people to help change the future of six underprivileged children and young people.
Those who travel on Emirates have undoubtedly seen the little donation envelopes in the seat pockets. But the foundation also accepts donations online and in the form of Skywards Miles. Donated miles are used to sponsor travel for doctors, surgeons, engineers and other professionals volunteering on humanitarian missions around the world.
On the Emirates Red Crescent website you can choose between 35 different purposes for your donation, such as providing food for fasters, supporting debtors and contributing to a refugee women fund. It also has a list of bank accounts for each donation type.
Gulf for Good raises funds for partner charity projects through challenges, like climbing Kilimanjaro and cycling through Thailand. This year’s projects are in partnership with Street Child Nepal, Larchfield Kids, the Foundation for African Empowerment and SOS Children's Villages. Since 2001, the organisation has raised more than $3.5 million (Dh12.8m) in support of over 50 children’s charities.
