DUBAI // A policeman has denied tipping off his friends about arrest warrants issued against them, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
Prosecutors said that Iranian A B, 56, who works as a corporal at Muraqqabat police station, had been looking for information about warrants issued against four people.
He denied a charge of divulging secrets. His friends, Iranians J K, 49 and S M, 43, Filipino J R, 31, and Syrian A A, 31, all denied charges of criminal complicity.
Emirati policeman S S, 24, testified that A B was referred to him by National Security after it was discovered he was passing on secret information.
“We arrested his friends and during investigations they all confessed that they have been asking A B to help them know if they were wanted by police for dud cheques,” said S S. “He was obtaining this information through his colleagues because he had no right to log into the system.”
S S said that the defendants all confessed they were friends with A B and that they had not offered him money in return for his help.
“I know him and he is a decent man and I was informed that he gave away secrets to his friends,” testified K A, 26, an Emirati policeman who worked with A B.
Prosecutors said that A B and the other defendants confessed to the charges during interrogation, however they all denied the charges in court.
The next hearing will be on January 27.
