DUBAI // A policeman was jailed for three months on Tuesday for sexually assaulting a Frenchwoman, but was cleared of raping her.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard that Emirati M A, 31, became friends with the 32-year-old victim four months after her arrival in the UAE in June 2013.

On the day they met, the woman said they talked for more than five hours and she believed that he was a decent man.

“He came to the villa where I have a room and gave me a present, then picked me up a couple of hours later for lunch. After which we both went to Mall of the Emirates and returned by 1.30am,” she said.

The next day they met by chance at a petrol station, where he asked if he could pick up some items he had mistakenly left in her room the day before.

At the villa, she said he followed her to her room despite telling him that she was not allowed to receive male friends.

Instead he sexually assaulted her. He told me he was an Emirati and a military man so I can’t do anything to him,” she said. “I followed him to his car and there he pushed me out of the car as I was holding on to it, which caused me injury and bleeding.”
