A young Emirati man was saved from a crash by UAQ police after his car's accelerator broke while doing almost 140kph.
Mohammed Abdullah, 21, was on his way from RAK when his vehicle stuck at 138kph on Emirates Road for 15 minutes before UAQ police patrols managed to rescue him.
Mr Abdullah immediately notified police of his failure to control the vehicle.
Major Talal Al Kharji, UAQ police's chief of operations, explained that traffic patrols were able to spot the vehicle and ambulance services and traffic patrols were notified to prepare for an emergency.
He added that traffic patrols were in constant communication with the driver throughout the incident to instruct him on how to stop the vehicle.
The car was spotted on exit 95. Once the road was secured, one of the patrol cars positioned itself in front of the vehicle and the driver was instructed to bump his car into the rear of the patrol car to bring it to a gradual stop.
