ABU DHABI // Development is the first guarantee for the future and young people are the real wealth of the nation, according to the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi spoke about his interest in promoting science and education in a magazine interview, reported the state news agency Wam.
He also spoke about supporting educational institutions to achieve a leap in leading educational progress in the UAE, and of the media as an important window to the concerns and aspirations of citizens as well as one of the means of expression of the community.
During the interview, the ruler said that medical services in the UAE had reached a high level of development, allowing the heath sector to be compared with the best international standards.
Other topics included the privileged position women in the UAE hold. "I am proud that we, in the UAE, have been able to show the real image of women in the Muslim community to the rest of the world," he said.
"UAE women have proven their ability to contribute and to participate in the construction and development of the nation, in all aspects of the workplace."
Sheikh Saud added that women in the UAE had become ministers, ambassadors and members of the Federal National Council.
"There is no doubt that their presence in the FNC reflects a strong participation in public life, an effective contribution to the UAE's development and progress and proof of the maturity of our political experience," he said.
He added that, although the UAE was a key state in the production of oil, it realised that alternative energy was the energy of the future.
