The Ministry of Interior has set guidelines for car decorations for the 43rd National Day celebrations, warning that offenders will face penalties that include having their cars impounded and fines of up to Dh3,000 under the UAE Traffic federal Law.

Brigr Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, director general of the Traffic Coordination Department at the ministry, said that car decoration laws have been set in such a way that allows people to celebrate without committing any traffic offences.

Brig Al Zaabi also warned that no marches would be allowed to be organised except for the official one.

He said the ministry encourages the public to celebrate the event in a civilised manner, without writing indecent comments, and erecting flags on vehicles in a place that poses a danger to the safety of drivers or other people. Stickers should be placed on the sides of vehicles, and car window tints must not exceed the 30 per cent limit.

Motorists must not carry more than the permitted number of passengers, Brig Al Zaabi said, and no passengers should stick their heads out of windows or the sunroofs of their vehicles.

Also on the list of dont’s are blocking traffic, modifying engines, obscuring number plates and use of spray paint.

Penalties for motorists range between having their car impounded and 12 black points on their driving licence and fines of up to Dh3,000.
