ABU DHABI // A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a lorry and dragged several metres along one of the capital's busiest roads. The accident on Muroor Road happened at about 10.30am. Traffic came to a standstill as police and paramedics blocked two lanes near a taxi stand close to the junction with 15th Street. The unidentified body was covered by plastic blankets as the emergency services waited for investigators to arrive at the scene.
"We were waiting for our van to pick us up to take us to Musaffah. It is a very busy road on the road and this man was trying to cross for a long time. I think he was getting late so he tried to cross in a hurry," said Mohammed Asul, who witnessed the crash. Other witnesses said that the man, of South Asian origin, had tried to run through traffic and was hit by a small pick-up lorry. Others, who had gathered around the area said they had watched, horrified as the man was hit with such force that he was lifted in the air before crashing on the ground again.
