DUBAI // A 30-year-old Pakistani has been cleared of taking part in the theft of electric cables from 35 buildings.

On January 11 last year, prosecutors said the man, along with others who remain at large, stole cables from electricity rooms in the apartment buildings in Discovery Gardens.

The thefts came to light when several of buildings suffered power cuts.

“I was contacted by the maintenance section who informed me of the problem and when we checked we found that the main cables had been stolen,” said a 26-year-old Pakistani security guard.

The theft was reported to police and the defendant was arrested.

He was found not guilty by the Dubai Criminal Court. It was not clear why the other men involved in the theft were not arrested.
