DUBAI // Two men stole clothes and shoes worth Dh1,790 from the Debenhams department store, hiding them inside a guitar case.
The Moroccans, aged 27 and 25, also stole Dh580 worth of goods from another shop.
A security guard at Debenhams said he became suspicious of the two as they tried to leave the shop in Mirdif City Centre Mall on August 12 this year.
“I stopped them and found 12 pieces of clothes and shoes that they stashed inside the case after removing the magnets using a nail cutter and scissors, which I found in their possession,” said the Nigerian guard, 27.
At a Dubai Criminal Court hearing in October the older man confessed in court to attempted theft while the other denied it.
“I have done nothing,” he told judges.
They were sentenced to a year in prison each and will be deported after serving their prison terms.
