ABU DHABI // A married woman has denied committing adultery with a student after they were caught alone in a hotel room by her husband.
On Monday the Criminal Court has heard that A J, a 24-year-old Emirati, was interning at an Abu Dhabi based company where L S, a 33-year-old Filipina works.
The student’s lawyer Dr Eman Al Jaberi, said the pair were family friends and A J even knew her husband.
A J was facing difficulties studying for an exam, “so in his humble mind he thought she could help him away from the chaos of the office, or a cafe”.
He also did not want to be distracted in the hotel lobby so he booked a room for them study in.
But when L S’s husband followed her into the hotel and when he saw her walk into a room he called the police.
”He did not know his wife was meeting the defendant, he thought she was cheating on him with another man.
“However, as soon as he saw A J he cancelled his complaint.”
Police however arrested the pair and accused them of adultery and beautifying a sinful act by being together alone in the room.
Dr Al Jaberi argued that the forensics medical tests proved nothing occurred between them.
Yet the pair were accused based on their confessions to prosecutors.
“My client is naive, and he was told by the police that if he confesses they will let him go.”
She added that L S was a recent Muslim convert and was unaware of the consequences of confessing to adultery.
“And their confessions are copy paste throughout the case files.”
The pair asked to be released on bail.
“Detaining them further won’t benefit them in anyway, he is a fourth year university student and she has a young girl,” continued Dr Al Jaberi.
“I hope it is possible to go back to my daughter because she needs me,” said LS.
A verdict will be announced on November 7.
