In efforts to revive the 125 year’s age-old custom of the endowment of palm trees, the city of Dubai, in line with the Year of Giving, has announced the establishment of what it calls the first Crowd Endowment Park and dates factory in the world.

The project will have a collective effort between Dubai Municipality and Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Center for Endowment Consultancy (MBRGCC).

Located next to Mushrif Park, over 15 acres of land, the scheme aims to encourage members of the community to donate palm trees as a form of agricultural endowment. The project will present an opportunity for the UAE's community to donate a number of palm trees that they grow in their homes or farms according to specific requirements.

The park will also contain a charity dates factory whose production will be allocated to disadvantaged members of the UAE community. The project will be expected to have an annual production capacity of around 150 tons of dates.

The concept originates from a 125-year-old custom derived from the Hatta region in UAE, which had the social custom of endowing palms by donating the proceeds into charity and supporting members of the public.

Dubai Municipality is expected to announce invitations to donations towards the palm endowment for the park as soon as the infrastructure is complete on the project.  In order to ensure the quality of production within the park, the Municipality will also issue specific requirements for each endowment palm tree.

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
