DUBAI // The Indian High School in Dubai has pledged Dh500,000 to support healthcare programmes run by Al Jalila Foundation.

The donation will go towards to improving people’s lives, Abdulkareem Al Olama, chief executive of the foundation, said on Wednesday.

“This partnership is further testament to the support that the Indian community in Dubai has devoted to the Al Jalila Foundation.

“We value their patronage and investment and look forward to seeing the impact of our collective efforts to improve lives through medical education and research,” Mr Olama said.

The donation is an indication of the community's commitment to the Year of Giving announced by the President Sheikh Khalifa and aimed at fostering social responsibility across public and private sectors.

“Our contribution is a token of our commitment to support the meaningful work carried out by Al Jalila Foundation. We look forward to making a difference to the lives of people, together,” said Ashok Kumar, chief executive of The Indian High School.

Al Jalila Foundation is a global philanthropic organisation dedicated to transforming lives through medical education and research. It was launched in 2013 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to place the country at the  forefront of medical innovation.

Al Jalila Foundation Research Centre, which is set to open this year in Dubai’s Healthcare City, aims to be the focal point for regional medical innovation by home-grown biomedical researchers.

The UAE’s first independent multi-disciplinary medical research centre will focus on regional health challenges including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and mental health.
