DUBAI // The Eid haircut is not only a regional tradition, but comes as part of the Islamic teaching to look your best during the holy days.
The holiday period is also the bumper season for the UAE's barbers, with some salons in Abu Dhabi's Khalidiya neighbourhood and Madinat Zayed working around the clock to cater to the increased demand.
With long queues a certainty during Eid, the ride-hailing service Careem has stepped in to cut the waiting time.
Running until this afternoon, No character style: with services limited to Dubai, you can now book a barber from the men's salon Akin to come to your home for a haircut and wet shave.
With prices beginning from Dh75, the barber can be booked from the Careem mobile phone app, with the service available from 9am till 3pm.
Barbers are paid in cash, with Careem not charging for the trip.
"Careem wanted to help customers beat the rush to get their grooming done for the Eid celebratory period and by bringing a barber to someone's door means they have more time to spend with their families," the company said in a statement announcing the initiative.
