The Chief of Ajman Police has denied reports that nine Jordanian prisoners held in the emirate’s prison are on hunger strike.

News outlets reported the nine prisoners were arrested along with 9 others in the same case six months ago and have gone on hunger strike to protest their detention without charge and trial.

Brigadier Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, told Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National, these reports were untrue and there was not a single prisoner in the emirate on hunger strike or detained without knowing why or without being tried.

The UAE respects the law and does not arrest people without charge and quick referral to court, Brig Al Nuaimi said, urging all media outlets to verify information before publishing and avoid reporting untrue reports.
