ABU DHABI // New gardens and playgrounds will be built in Shamkha and Adala, the executive committee at the executive council said yesterday.
During the committee's meeting, headed by Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun, chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, plans for five gardens in the two areas outside Abu Dhabi city were given the green light and will contribute "to the greenery of the two areas", the committee said.
It added that they would provide a natural space for the local community, "while raising the level of services provided".
The parks are also meant to encourage people to play sport.
The committee also adopted plans to install and supply a water pipe along the Sweihan Road, to meet demands. The pipe will serve Al Falah, Shamkha and surrounding areas.
Projects to help small Emirati businesses were also approved.
An agreement with Abu Dhabi Municipality, to support projects at the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, was adopted. The agreement will allow enterprises at the fund to be exempt from fees to submit bids and tenders on the work of the municipality.
Ways to provide appropriate opportunities for growth and help reduce costs - ensuring competition with other commercial entities - were also approved.
The committee checked ongoing projects and achievements made in accordance to work plans. The committee stressed on the importance of completing the project within the given time frame.

Uefa Nations League: How it Works
The Uefa Nations League, introduced last year, has reached its final stage, to be played over five days in northern Portugal. The format of its closing tournament is compact, spread over two semi-finals, with the first, Portugal versus Switzerland in Porto on Wednesday evening, and the second, England against the Netherlands, in Guimaraes, on Thursday.
The winners of each semi will then meet at Porto’s Dragao stadium on Sunday, with the losing semi-finalists contesting a third-place play-off in Guimaraes earlier that day.
Qualifying for the final stage was via League A of the inaugural Nations League, in which the top 12 European countries according to Uefa's co-efficient seeding system were divided into four groups, the teams playing each other twice between September and November. Portugal, who finished above Italy and Poland, successfully bid to host the finals.
