The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has acquired new water jet blasters to remove markings and paint from roads.

The body said the blasters were the latest technology and environmentally friendly.

The technology was previously used to remove rubber deposits by aircraft tyres on runways, said Maitha bin Udai, RTA chief executive.

The authority said the new devices could clean areas of 600 square metres per hour, compared to the former method, which cleaned 40 square metres per hour, state news agency Wam reported.
