ABU DHABI // The National Service and Reserve Authority (NSRA) announced that registration is open for Emiratis aged 25 to 30, born between May 30, 1984, and May 30, 1989, inclusive, reported Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National.
The NSRA has urged all Emirati men who are eligible to visit the recruitment centre nearest their home to determine their status. Centres are in Al Nahyan Camp in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Camp in Al Ain, Al Rahmaniya Camp in Sharjah and Liwa Camp in the Western Region.
The NSRA has asked all local and federal government authorities and the private sector to grant leave to eligible members of staff so they may visit recruitment centres and register for national service as stipulated in articles 12 and 28 of Law No 6 of 2014.
The law includes guarantees for recruits who are already employed and their employers must commit to keeping the recruit’s right to his position and job until the end of his/her national service period, with the possibility of temporarily filling the position while the recruit is on duty.
A recruit will keep receiving his salary, bonuses, allowances, promotions and raises throughout the period of national service and his/her time of service in that position will be accounted for within the specified period for remuneration and pension purposes as well as for other privileges arising from such employment or work.
At the beginning of the week, the NSRA stressed that recruits from 25 to 30 years of age who have already completed enrolment procedures must make it to their medical test appointment upon receiving an SMS notification, so as avoid exposure to legal accountability, as stipulated in Chapter IV of Federal Law No. 6 of 2014.
