ABU DHABI // To develop a culture of reading, the National Media Council has announced it will stage events to support the national strategy for reading, which will extend to 2026.
The events are aimed at supporting reading and publishing to stimulate the UAE public into developing the habit of reading.
Mansour Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of the National Media Council, said, “The month of reading is one of the pillars of the country’s national objectives and the most important part of it, which is building human resources.”
The council will support the national strategy of reading initiatives, he said.
The NMC in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Education Council, will organise workshops under the title “How to choose your book”.
The workshops will target the curriculum, teachers and students, and management staff and the distribution of free books to schools and government departments as well as organise reading sessions for children in public parks during weekends.
State agency Wam will also launch a number of audio-visual media initiatives as well as media coverage of all the events of federal and local authorities to keep up with the month through the media and professional work teams.
