DUBAI // An unspecified number of people have been detained at the Dubai International Airport in connection with a daring diamond heist at a jewellery show in Mumbai. Police confirmed that arrests had been made in relation to the robbery but offered no details on the number of suspects or their nationalities. Closed-circuit television footage and visitor records at the International Jewellery Show-2010 in Mumbai revealed that four people diverted the attention of an attendant at a stall at the exhibition and walked out through the main exit with a box of diamonds worth more than Dh5 million. The group headed straight for the Mumbai airport and took a flight to Dubai, Indian media reports said. The suspects were arrested immediately after they landed at the Dubai airport, an airport security official said. No further details were given. Indian media reports suggested Mumbai police were working with Interpol and India's embassy in the Emirates to apprehend the suspects. The India International Jewellery Show, which opened last Thursday, is the third largest such exhibition in the world. Some of the leading brands and retailers in the world participated in the event.
