ABU DHABI // A Canadian motorist who “gave the finger” to another driver said it was a misunderstanding, the Appeals Court heard on Monday.

The man denied the charges and said although he did take his arm out of the car window, he only pointed to the man and signalled he wanted to overtake him.

The Canadian said the road was congested and most vehicles were lorries, so he needed to be on that lane and the complainant had misunderstood him.

He had received a one month suspended prison sentence and fined.

The case was adjourned to March 23.
