DUBAI // More than 5,700 cases of bounced cheques worth Dh410 million were resolved amicably at the Al Muraqabbat police station last year.
Of the 5,773 cases, 5,757 were commercial-related cheques and 16 were personal, said Col Adel Al Suwaidy, director of the station, adding that the cases did not require being sent to public prosecution. However, the station also recorded 11,640 cases of unpaid cheques.
Officers at the station recorded a decrease in reports of crime last year.
“In 2013, we had 16,000 criminal reports. Last year, we had 15,274 criminal reported filed at the station,” said Col Suwaidy.
