Thousands of football fans are in for a surprise treat after heads of ruling families and big businesses across the country announced free charter flights to Bahrain for the Gulf Cup final.

DUBAI // Thousands of football fans are in for a surprise treat after heads of ruling families and big businesses across the country announced free charter flights to Bahrain to cheer on the UAE national team in the Gulf Cup final against Iraq tomorrow.

Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah, has ordered three planes to transport football fans, the state news agency, Wam, reported.

The Sharjah Sports Council has begun registration of those keen to travel to Bahrain in coordination with the Emirates Airport Authority, said Ahmed Naseer Al Fardan, the secretary general of the Sharjah Sports Council.

The flights will depart from Sharjah International Airport at 9am, 12.30pm and at 4:10pm.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah also requisitioned three planes for fans. The planes will depart from RAK International Airport, Wam said. Fans interested in getting on board can register their names today at the RAK Radio Building in Al Dhait district.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, the ruler of Fujairah, allocated four planes that will leave from Fujairah International Airport.

The telecommunications company, du, has also chartered a plane for 350 fans for the game, which will kick off at 6.45pm tomorrow at Bahrain National Stadium.

Earlier, hundreds of lucky fans boarded six special flights that took them to watch the UAE triumph against Kuwait in Tuesday's semi-final. The flights were ordered by the President, Sheikh Khalifa, in recognition of the national team's impressive performance.

8. Pillar 2 implementation 

Many multinational groups will begin to feel the practical effect of the Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax (DMTT), the UAE's implementation of the OECD’s global minimum tax under Pillar 2. While the rules apply for financial years starting on or after January 1, 2025, it is 2026 that marks the transition to an operational phase.

9. Reduced compliance obligations for imported goods and services

Businesses that apply the reverse-charge mechanism for VAT purposes in the UAE may benefit from reduced compliance obligations. 

10. Substance and CbC reporting focus

Tax authorities are expected to continue strengthening the enforcement of economic substance and Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting frameworks. In the UAE, these regimes are increasingly being used as risk-assessment tools, providing tax authorities with a comprehensive view of multinational groups’ global footprints and enabling them to assess whether profits are aligned with real economic activity.
