DUBAI // A pregnant woman who was brought to the emergency room because she was bleeding was accused of using a false ID, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.

ZJ, 31, a Russian visitor, is charged with using an original official document - an Emirates ID card - of a friend, presenting it to Al Baraha Hospital and claiming it was hers.

The woman called ambulance on April 2 and was taken to hospital after miscarrying. A hospital data registrar working on the emergency desk said he could not remember whether or not the woman submitted an ID.

“Since she was losing her baby I did not focus on whether she gave me an ID or not,” testified SR, a 32-year-old Indian.

ZJ told the court that because she was sick she did not know she had used the wrong card. She denied charges of knowingly using a false identification.

A verdict is expected on September 22.
