Forty-nine low-income families will receive about Dh4 million worth of adahi, or sacrificial animals, and clothes.

Dar Al Ber Society will distribute adahi to 235,000 people in the UAE and 20 Arab, African and Asian countries, the state news agency Wam reported on Sunday.

About 25,000 people from more than 5,000 families in Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah will benefit from 2,400 sacrificial animals worth Dh1.2m, while 10,436 sacrificial animals worth Dh2.5m will go to 210,000 people from 42,000 families in 20 countries, said Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, executive director of Dar Al Ber Society.

Run by the Dubai government, the society will spend Dh720,000 on adahi in countries where the prices of sacrificial animals are much higher than in the UAE. It set the prices based on approval from the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai.

“Up to 300 local families, including 1,500 people, will benefit from the feast clothes valued at Dh150,000, and 7,500 people of 1,500 families abroad will get charity clothes, also valued at Dh150,000,” Mr bin Zayed said.

The public is being urged to donate at Dar Al Ber Society branches across the country, on the society’s official website, and through the Dubai Islamic Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

Adahi and clothing coupons are available from Dar Al Ber Society representatives at 55 shopping malls and co-operative societies in Dubai, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
