AJMAN // Two men suspected of impersonating police officers and stealing from homes have been arrested in Ajman.
The men - one from an Asian country and one holding a Comoros Islands passport - entered a house posing as detectives and stole Dh12,900, a piece of gold and two mobile phones, said Col Abdullah Saif Al Matrooshi, deputy director of police operations at Ajman Police.
“A tip-off was received from a victim saying that two men entered his house and claimed they were detectives and requested to see his ID card. Then, they asked him to open a strongbox and take out a closed bag with a secret number and open it,” Col Al Matrooshi said.
“They stole the contents of the bag, and then they tied the victim up, covered his mouth and eyes and fled.”
The suspects were arrested after the Criminal Investigation Department formed a team to pursue them. The team discovered that they had been committing several burglaries in a similar way, the deputy director said.
Their case has been referred to prosecutors to bring charges.
